Join Omar López-Chahoud and members of the UNTITLED, ART team for a curated selection of the ninth edition of UNTITLED, ART Miami Beach. Omar López-Chahoud has been the Artistic Director and Curator of UNTITLED, ART since its founding in 2012. As an independent curator, López-Chahoud has curated and co-curated numerous exhibitions in the United States and internationally.

Curating in the Caribbean: A panel conversation with the Caribbean Art Initiative

Thursday, December 3, 12–1pm EST

In this conversation organized by UNTITLED, ART, the Caribbean Art Initiative brings together several participants from the Caribbean to discuss diverse approaches to curating visual arts in the region. Speakers include: Nicole Smythe-Johnson, writer and independent curator from Kingston, Jamaica; Laura Castro, artist and cultural practitioner based in Santo Domingo; along with María Isabel Rueda and Mario Llanos of La Usurpadora, an independent art space in the small town of Puerto Colombia. The panel will be moderated by Sara Hermann, founding member of the CAI, and Dominican art historian and curator.

Susanne Fredricks, art advisor specializing in emerging contemporary artists in the Caribbean and the Diaspora, and Susan Mains, artist and 5-time Commissioner of Grenada National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale will also join the panel.

As part of UNTITLED, ART’s Caribbean focused programming, the fair is presenting this panel in Spanish. This conversation will approach the work of two poets and visual artists from the Caribbean, whose work explores intimacy, immigration, memory, affection, health, and colonial persistence in contemporary society. Johan Mijail (Dominican Republic) and Katie Numi Usher (Belize) will be moderated by Miguel A. López, Co-director and Chief Curator of TEOR/éTica, Costa Rica.

Politics As Usual Or Is It?

                                                  As the fight for equality and justice continues, many have opinions on things that should take place during this time and through this era of life; with former President Trump facing his third indictment and Governor DeSantis loosing his backing and support from investors. It leaves most to wonder what is taking place in the political parties, there level of professionalism and the image that they portray to the citizens of this country. There is also the issues that are not being fully spoken about on news channels, issues such as current President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden being under investigation for his ties in Ukraine and the damaging information that was found on his computer. The fact that it was said that he plead guilty to these charges that were brought against him in federal court about his business practices does not seem to touch the air ways in the manner that it should.
